To catch your attention, we could have easily put a picture of a child been molested, a wife beaten, or a family broken.  But we are not here to shock you, but to inform you, and help you.  We watch television, and feel reasonably secure in this part of the country, confident in the fact that these things don't happen here, or only happen to a certain group or class of people. It happens everyday in our country, and everyday in George.  And FAMSA are here to help those people, but they need your help too.

MISSION

FAMSA Outeniqua, the Family and Marriage association of South Africa, has a mission to empower people, to build, reconstruct and maintain sound relationships in the family, in marriage and in communities.  We operate and function in the broadest spectrum of the rainbow society of our region.

FAMSA is committed to:
* Address the inequalities in relationships
* Reduce conflict within the family
* Be more accessible to our community
* Enhance community participation and awareness
* though awareness and training

FOCUS AREAS:

FAMSA concentrates mainly on two focus areas when serving our community, namely counselling and community work.We counsel and work with the victims of violence, family violence, molestations, rape, emotional deprivation, marriage unfaithfulness, suicide trauma and stress victims. ( An average of four rape victims per week are reported at our counseling rooms).

We also do debriefing and conflict solving for organizations and businesses.

A great number of clients are children.  (We make use of the services of two play therapists).  Out of a recent research done with 150 children, 25 of them have considered suicide as an option, as they could not handle the fighting in their homes anymore!  28 of those children were already exposed to one or another form of molestation or maltreatment.

FUNDS:

Being a welfare organization, FAMSA depends largely on the goodwill and donations from the public to continue with their services to the community.  Donations can be made to Nedbank George, account number:  1091065551
