    SPCA INSPECTORS

In order to qualify as an SPCA Inspector requires a high standard of animal knowledge, care as well as both Veterinary and Legal training. The National Council of SPCA’s sets an entrance exam based on the Operations Manual of the SPCA and once passed a prospective Inspector will then attend training at the National Council, where in depth aspects of the Law and animals, Law enforcement, prosecution and Court procedures are covered among other matters. Once successfully completed further qualifications have to be attained which includes the completion of a specific assignment in some aspect of animal care and welfare as well as a Veterinary qualification obtained by working under a registered Veterinarian. This qualification includes the diagnosing and treatment of various animal diseases, emergency treatment, vaccinations and Euthanasing. Once declared competent by a registered Veterinarian, the Inspector then obtains the status of Animal Welfare Assistant and is then registered with the South African veterinary Council. Only then can a person receive the qualification of SPCA Inspector.
