    STERILIZATION OF ANIMALS

The uncontrolled multiplication of animals is the single most important factor that leads to overpopulation of unwanted animals and consequent animal abuse and neglect. Every sterilized animal greatly lessens the work load of the SPCA hence it’s commitment to encourage sterilization all domestic pets.

For example, an un-sterilized cat, allowed to reproduce every six months with a litter of say 6 kittens of which half are females, has the potential to produce 250,000 cats in just over 7 years if the off-spring remain un-sterilized as well!! In the case of dogs this figure could be 80,000 dogs in just over 4 years.

The SPCA is working relentlessly to get legislation in place that all domestic animals owned in future should be sterilized.
